Obituary

Jodie D. Gauntt, 56, of Nash, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 22, 1969, in Naples, Texas, to Joyce and Jackie Gauntt Sr., Jodie lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and a deep love for the Lord Jesus Christ.

A self-taught mechanic, Jodie had a natural talent for tinkering and fixing things, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. His greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved nieces and nephews, whom he cherished deeply. Though he never had children of his own, Jodie raised his nephew, Jonathan Gauntt, as a son, pouring his heart into his family. He also took great pleasure in teaching his nephew Zy'Aire everything he knew, sharing his skills and wisdom with love and patience. A devoted member of Liberty Eylau Baptist Church, Jodie’s faith in Jesus guided his life and actions.

Jodie was preceded in death by his father, Jackie Gauntt Sr., and his brother, Donald Smith. He is survived by his mother, Joyce Gauntt; brothers, Jackie Gauntt Jr., Buddy Gauntt and Jeff Gauntt (and his wife, Carrie Gauntt) sisters, Janette Gauntt, Crystal Gauntt, and Joanna Yarberry (and her husband, Stephen Yarberry) his special friend, Laura, from Dr. Craig Mueller’s office; and his many nieces and nephews, who will forever hold him in their hearts.

In his final moments, Jodie’s last words were a reflection of his life’s mission: “Be kind to people, be kind to each other.” Services will be held on August 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Liberty Eylau Baptist Church, with Pastor Dwight Lowrie officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a cancer support organization in Jodie’s memory.

Jodie’s legacy of love, selflessness, faith, and mechanical ingenuity will live on in the countless lives he touched.
