I met Miss Dorothy for the first time at Christian Care Center in May of 2025 although weād both lived on the same street since we moved here nearly a decade ago. It was āchanceā encounter that God used to bring us (myself and my three childrenā Dorothy, 7, Susanna, 4, and Titus, 2) into a brief but meaningful friendship with her. During that first visit, when we discovered that her name was the same as that of my daughter (and my great grandmother who spent her last days on earth in the same facility in 2017) and that she was actually our neighbor, the five of us were amazed at the kindness of God in letting us find each other. She exclaimed, āYou found me!ā And even my Dorothy got teary eyed at the realization that God was letting us meet a sister in the Lord from our own small town and even smaller neighborhood in order to minister to her. Miss Dorothy loved hearing the scriptures read and enjoyed singing the great hymns with us. She even humored my daughter as she read her a short Berenstain Bears book and laughed at the funny parts. She had such a tenderness about her and so much confidence in her great God. She shared with us one time, āSometimes Iām tempted to feel sorry for myself here and pray and ask God to do something.. then I look around and remember āGod is doing somethingā even here in this.āā She prayed and asked God to give her understanding and even thanked God for her trials she experienced as her health declined. She sat in the nursing home room, blind and unable to do a single thing for herself, but she still prayed. She still worshipped the God who loved her and was caring for her even then. Towards the end of her life, when hospice had already been called in, we went in to pray and sing with her again. She was barely conscious that day. But as we began to sing ā Tis so sweet,ā she very slowly raised her hand into the air and did her best to sing along with us. The little bit of her life we were so privileged to witness was something my children and I wonāt forget. I pray Iām found as faithful as Miss Dorothy was. She looked to Him until the very end, and I rejoice knowing she sees Him now face to face. I look forward to seeing her again in glory.

De Deās mom really worked at being a caring friend and was quick to ask about how others were doing. Many people are quick to say they will pray for you, but De Deās mom was quick into action. She would remind you that she was still praying for you. She remembered something you might have done for her, and often brought it up. De Deās mom dealt with her blindness in such a beautiful way, accepting her trials and enjoying the other gifts God gave her. She had remarkable strength, endurance, and faith. It was indeed a gift to me having gotten to experience such a person! De De Mac Lure, you gave your mom the most beautiful gift of consistent loving care. God has to be pleased! Job well done with much love!ā¤ļø ā¤ļøCharleen Mac Lure, Darlene Doody Doiron..
