Robert Kerckaert

July 30, 1951 - June 26, 2025

Obituary

In loving memory of Robert “Bob” Eugene Kerckaert, born on July 30, 1951, to the late Maurice H Kerckaert and Elise M Vandenberghe. He departed this earthly realm on June 26, 2025, at the age of 73. Bob enjoyed a good time, a devoted family man, a committed friend, and a  great debater.

Bob loved to have a good time. He enjoyed a good party with food and friends. In his younger years you could find him gathered with his friends playing pool or horseshoes. Later in life he took up playing golf and cornhole.  Whatever the game you could always count on Bob being serious about winning. He didn’t like to lose.

Bob was a family man. Devoted to his late partner, Penny Swathwood, he spent many years caring for her before her death.  Growing up in the Kerckaert family, every member learned and loved to play cards. Anytime the family got together you could bet a card game would be afoot. Bob passed this tradition down to his daughter and grandchildren.  Later in life he loved to play golf with his brother, Gary.

Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a mail carrier, carrying the mail to the men overseas. If Bob was proud of any accomplishment in his life, this was his greatest.

He was a friend to all.  It didn’t matter your station in life Bob would love you where you were. He took many people into his home, helped them get jobs, and get back on their feet. To those he was close to, he was a friend for life.  Spending hours grilling out, going out to eat, playing pool, and attending NasCar races. He loved to make people laugh. He wanted people to see the good in life.

Bob was a force to be reckoned with. He loved to debate politics and religion. He watched hours upon hours of news and The Discovery Channel. He was a man set in his ways. No matter how intense the debate, you could walk away knowing he was still your friend even in you didn’t agree with him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Maurice H Kerckaert and Elise M Vandenberghe, late partner of 35 years, Penny Swathwood, and sister Sharon Calhoun. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Jennifer Pena (Alfredo), brother Gary A Kerckaert, sister Julie A Roth, grandchildren Noah and Torie Dean, Erick and Erika Pena, along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Bob leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and friendship. He will deeply missed by his family and friends.  As his spirit is now with Jesus, may his memory forever be treasured in our hearts and minds

Arrangements are entrusted to Tri-State Cremation and Funeral Services.
