Virginia Smith

Virginia Sue Smith was called home January 21, 2025. Sue was born on October 12, 1956, in Tom, Oklahoma, to Luther and Jean Matthews. She was preceded in death by her parents Luther and Jean Matthews, her sister Marilyn Vaden, and her husband Eric Smith. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Victor and Kim Matthews of Texarkana, Arkansas, her brother-in-law Larry Vaden of Texarkana, Arkansas.

Her children Mike and Alicia Smith of Simms, Texas, Stephanie and Kevin Short of Shreveport, LA, Erica and Joe Melton of Minden, LA. Seven grandchildren Chesney and Raymond Swalley of Sulfer, LA, Mac Gray of Minden, LA, Taylor Reno of Minden, LA, Katherine and Troy West of Minden, LA, Allison Coe of Ringold, LA, Madeline Coe of Ringgold, LA, Caelynn Smith of Simms, Texas.

Five great-grandchildren: Leighton Reno of Minden, LA, Parker & Peyton Swalley of Sulfer, LA, Silas Boltenhouse of Minden, LA, and Riley West of Minden, LA. Three very dear friends that she shared a lifetime of memories with: Dru Brown, Barbra Dean, and Jim Cass. Mrs. Smith also had two nieces and two nephews and many other relatives and friends that she loved dearly.

Sue never met an animal that she didn’t like and was known to adopt strays, the two- and four-legged variety. She spent her life taking care of others. Her favorite saying was, “If you leave here hungry it’s your fault.”
