Obituary

William Edward “Bill” Ellefson, age 84, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2026. He was born on June 20, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. Bill will be lovingly remembered for his generous heart, his willingness to help others, his creative spirit, and, most of all, his deep love and devotion to his family.

Bill was a man who took great pride in being useful to others. He was naturally gifted with his hands and enjoyed working on projects around the home. He loved spending time outdoors, particularly gardening and building. Whether he was working with wood, creating picture frames, or completing electrical projects, Bill found genuine enjoyment in creating, repairing, and improving the world around him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and never hesitated to assist someone who needed him.

Bill also possessed a great appreciation for technology and computers. He was highly knowledgeable about personal computers and enjoyed working with them throughout his life. One of his greatest joys was using his creativity and skills to make movies for his grandchildren. These were more than projects to Bill, they were expressions of his love and a way of creating lasting memories for those who meant so much to him.

Bill had a tender heart for animals and cared for animals of all kinds throughout his life. His beloved dogs, Pickle, Shadow, and Niko, held a special place in his heart and brought him great companionship and joy.

Bill proudly served in the military, carrying with him the memories and experiences of his time in service. Yet among all of his accomplishments, one of the greatest joys of his life was the family he built and the love he shared with his wife, Patricia McGinnis.

Bill and Patricia were married in 1988 and shared many cherished years together. He loved his wife dearly and treasured the life they shared. Their marriage was an important part of Bill’s life, and his devotion to Patricia was evident to all who knew them.

Family was at the heart of Bill’s world. He was a devoted husband, a loving stepfather, and a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was affectionately known as “Pappy.” He adored his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and would have done anything for them. He took great pride in his family and found immense happiness in spending time with them and creating memories they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Bill also had a special friendship with Charles, with whom he enjoyed working on electrical projects and other things around the house. His willingness to share his knowledge and lend a helping hand was simply part of who he was. Bill had a way of making people feel that they could always count on him.

He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed reading, watching his favorite movie, Star Wars, and indulging in his favorite sweets, including cookies, suckers, and ice cream. He especially enjoyed a good cup of coffee. These simple things, along with the company of those he loved, brought Bill great contentment.

Bill’s life was one of service, creativity, love, and devotion. He leaves behind a legacy measured not only by the things he built and the work he accomplished, but by the lives he touched and the memories he created. His kindness, generosity, humor, and loving presence will remain deeply treasured by his family and friends.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; his stepchildren; Justin Sells, Jeff Sells, and Jermey Sells; his seven grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren; his four sisters; and numerous extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved him, his memory will remain a source of comfort and gratitude. The love he gave so freely will continue through his family, and the memories he created will be treasured for generations to come.

Bill will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held close in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love him.
