Matthew Jeffries

Matthew Claude Jefferies, 65, of Ashdown, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026.

Born on October 2, 1960, in El Monte, California, he was the son of Paul Jefferies Sr. and Veda Burton Jefferies.

Music was one of the great constants of Matthew’s life. A naturally talented musician, he had a deep love for music and guitars. Music gave him a way to express parts of himself that words sometimes could not, and his talent was remembered by those who knew him.

Matthew cherished his daughter, Candice, and his granddaughters, Lana and Katie, who held an important place in his heart. He also carried the memory of Kynda, a beloved companion who battled cancer and ultimately passed away from the disease. Their relationship remained meaningful to him, and she continued to hold a special place in his heart.

Throughout his life, Matthew was fortunate to have many meaningful friendships. Billy Bowling was among those closest to him and remained by his side with love, care, and unwavering support until the very end. Matthew also valued the companionship and friendship of many other friends, each of whom brought something special to his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Veda Jefferies; his aunt, Priel Renee Sailor; his nephew, Paul Jefferies III (Little Paul); his beloved companion, Kynda; and others who were dear to him.

He is survived by his daughter, Candice Settlemoir; his granddaughters, Lana and Katie; his brothers, Paul and Bryan; his sisters, Alonna Almeranti and Trina Day; his lifelong friend, Billy Bowling; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Those who knew Matthew will remember his kindness, curiosity, love for animals, musical talent, sense of humor, and the many different sides of his personality. His music and the memories he created will remain with those who loved him.

He will be missed and remembered with tenderness by all whose lives he touched.
