Obituary

Leonard Ray "Sonny" McKamie, age 85, of Nash, Texas, passed away peacefully after a long illness on July 9, 2026, at Reunion Plaza Nursing & Rehab Center in Texarkana, Texas. Born on December 3, 1940, in Hope, Arkansas to Chester Ray McKamie and Dorothy Inez Kennedy McKamie, Sonny lived a life marked by devotion to his family.

A proud veteran, Sonny honorably served in the United States Army. He attended Tolleson Union High School in Cashion, Arizona. Later in life, Sonny was a Security Officer at the Texarkana College Police Department, where he retired after 20 plus years.

Sonny is survived by his former wife, Judy Ann McKamie Chapman, his children, Crystal and Ron Cornell of Henderson, NV, Sean and Katie McKamie of Texarkana, TX, Sam McKamie of Texarkana, AR, and his siblings, Sandy McKamie of Nash, TX and Susie and Bill Neese of Maud, TX.

Sonny is also survived by his four grandchildren, Jessica Hutchins of North Las Vegas, NV, Jacob McKamie of Texarkana, TX, Joe McKamie of Texarkana, AR, Sonny McKamie of Redwater, TX, and Brooke Harmon of Redwater, TX; his six great-grandchildren, Ember Hutchins of Las Vegas, NV, Dexter and Cadence Hutchins of North Las Vegas, NV, Nyomie McKamie of Redwater, TX, and Ivy and Jasper McKamie of Texarkana, AR; one great-great-grandchild, Jaxtyn Wise of Las Vegas, NV, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sonny was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Terry Lynn McKamie, his brother, Richard Donald “Donnie” McKamie, and his nephew, Joshua Kay Dee.

Throughout his life, Sonny was known for his kindness, generosity, and his strength of character. He will always be loved and deeply missed by all his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held August 15th, 2026, from 2-4 pm at Life House Church, 1102 Maywood St, Texarkana, AR. Matthew Neese, Sonny’s nephew will be presenting the eulogy.

The family is being assisted by Tri-State Cremation and Funeral Services.
