Obituary
Dennis Ray Davis, a proud Navy veteran and devoted family man, peacefully passed away on August 19, 2026 in Texarkana, Texas (formerly of Conroe, TX). Born on January 1, 1944, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Dennis was the beloved son of Herschel E. Davis and Dapha E. (Horne) Davis.
Dennis honorably served his country for four years in the United States Navy as an Engineman Third Class (EN3) in the Air Conditioning division, where he carried out his duties as a tester with dedication. Following his military service, he married and became a father. Later he was a cowboy in Wyoming saying that he liked that work, but was not a cold weather man. The warmth of Texas lured him into the oil drilling industry where he settled in the Houston area. He earned his commercial drivers license and drove a truck until he retired. Dennis liked working with his hands; he built a woodshop so he could enlarge the house and foster his favorite hobby, woodworking. He enjoyed building picture frames, tables and ornate stands that he gifted to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Adele Davis. He is survived by his children, James Davis and Cyndi Davis Reaves; his siblings, Keith Davis (Anne), Debbie Thomas, and Sam Davis (Mitzi); six grand children and five great-grand children along with his nephews and nieces.
He received care from Heritage Hospice at The Villa in his final days. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Tri-State Cremation and Funeral Services. His forthcoming interment will be on October 26, 2026 at 1:45 pm at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
Dennis will be remembered for his commitment to country and his humorous character. His presence will be deeply missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a local hospice or an animal charity of your choice.
