Obituary
John Michael “Mike” Butler, 74, of Texarkana, passed away peacefully in his hometown on December 8, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 26, 1951, and spent his life in the community he loved.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Butler; his sons, John Michael Butler (Jennifer) and William Silas Butler (Lauren); his brother, Mark Butler; his sister, Sandra Watkins (Royce); and his grandchildren, Gabriel, Marceline, Landon, Luke, Kambren, Jace, and Silas Joe, whom he was deeply proud of and loved with all his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John William “Jay” Butler and Madge Butler; his sister, Judy McDonald; and his aunt, Ethel Mae “Masie” Best.
Mike was gentle, kind, and always on the go. He enjoyed riding three-wheelers and ATVs at the old sand pit off Hoot Plant Road, exploring the Albert Pike Wilderness Area, and racing—whether drag racing, go-karts, or three-wheeler racing with the Phase 1 Racing Association. He and Susan traveled to the Texas Hill Country several times a year to enjoy the Texas music they both loved, creating memories they cherished deeply. He also treasured evenings spent “pickin’ and grinnin’” with friends.
Above all, Mike was devoted to his family, and his steady, loving presence will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held in January. Details will be announced.
