Obituary

Mary Belle Garrison, 79, of Cove, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025.

Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly, cherishing every moment spent together.  Whether playing games, listening to music, or sharing a warm laugh, Mary created lasting memories filled with love and joy.

She was known for her spirited personality — resilient, independent, and steadfast in protecting those she loved. Her bold nature and unwavering strength earned the admiration and respect of all who knew her.

Mary also had the heart of a servant. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, often cleaning and cooking for friends and neighbors who were sick, hospitalized, or simply in need of care. Never one to sit idle, Mary found joy in serving others. She was the “fun” grandma, mother, aunt, sister, and friend.

Mary was born in Los Angeles,CA but was raised in Mena Arkansas. She came from a large family who worked in cotton fields and the logging industry. She met the love of her life, Doyle Garrison, and raised their children in Garner, TX. where they attended the Assembly of God church. Later in life she attended Rock Creek Road Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to church, praising Jesus and praying for her family and loved ones.

Mary is survived by her children: Kenneth Wayne Garrison; Taryn Garrison of Cove, AR; Donna Doylene Maddux and husband Tim of Mineral Wells, TX; and Angelia Dianne Garrison of Hatfield, AR. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ryan Garrison, Rachel Heiden and husband Adam, Jacob Garrison, Allison Garrison, Tyler Maddux, and Bradlee Maddux; her great-grandchildren Presley and Ashton Heiden, Amara Garrison, Jensen Thomas, and soon-to-arrive baby Josie Belle Thomas.

She is also survived by her siblings: Lloyd Jones of Valley Springs, CA; Robert Jones of Cove, AR; John Jones of Hatfield, AR; Thomas Jones and wife Lucy of Bentonville, AR; James Jones of Bentonville, AR; Maxine Hubbard and husband Leroy of Cove, AR; and Sue Cost and husband Don of Mena, AR, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Doyle Dewayne Garrison; her parents, Carl and Nona Mae Jones; her son, Johnny Lee Garrison; and her siblings Wanda Jones, Jefferson “Jay” Jones, Joyce Jones Quince, and Betty Jones Sharp.

A service to honor Mary’s life will be held on Saturday, 10/11/25 at 1:00 PM at Crystal Hill Cemetery in Wickes, AR. Brother Gary Richardson from Rock Creek Road Baptist Church in Mineral Wells, TX will be officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate her memory.

Mary Belle Garrison’s loving spirit, joyful laugh, and devotion to her family will be deeply missed but never forgotten. We rejoice knowing she now rests in the presence of her Lord and Savior, as Scripture reminds us: “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).

Knowing Mary was a great pleasure! She always had a big smile and welcomed me with a hug every time I seen her. I remember traveling from Arkansas back to Washington state back in the late 80s when I was in the military and stopped by to see the Garrison clan in Texas and although I'd only planned on staying a few hours, Mary wouldn't hear of it. she and Doyle had me stay for dinner and then gave me a bed for the night. Before I left out the next day, they gave me a tent to sleep in so I wouldn't be sleeping in the elements beside my motorcycle on the trip back. I will miss her as I do Doyle, some of the greatest people I ever had the pleasure of knowing.

As a kid, I always loved going to Aunt Mary and Uncle Doyle's house. She was always so full of kindness and laughter. A beautiful person, inside and out. She introduced me and Jamie at the Vandervoort dance, so I have her to thank for so many of my most loved people! I will forever cherish the memories I have of her.
