"Robert Wayne Tubb, 67, of Texarkana , Arkansas, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones and Service Dog and Best Friend , Lucy, after a brief, but hard fought battle with cancer. On Sunday afternoon, November 10th, 2024, God's Angels carried him into Glory Land where there is no more pain or worries, and the fish bite eternally.
Robert was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on June 30,1957. He grew up in Texarkana and spent many days playing little league baseball, roller skating on weekends, fishing at Spring Lake Park and Lake Wright Patman, and riding bikes with his best friend, Mike. They rode all over town looking for what they could get into. Skipping school was another hobby of his. Robert began working at Piggly Wiggly Grocery at the age of 14, as his Dad was the manager of the store. He said his family grew up eating "bent cans" of food.
He attended Central Baptist Church, faithfully, with his family. Robert accepted Jesus as his Savior and was baptized at the age of 12. He states that he has never doubted his Salvation! Blessed Assurance.
At 17, Robert enlisted in the US NAVY, and served his Country for 22 years, until he retired in 1998, Honorably. PO2 Tubb's service included, tours on Dwight D Eisenhower Aircraft Carrier (CVN 69 ) ; NAS Sigonella, Subic Bay, Phillippines (SeaBees) ; Rota Spain (COMNAVACT); PO2 Tubb's family accompanied him stateside to duty stations NAS JAX, Florida; NCBC Memphis, Millington, TN; NCBC Gulfport, Ms ; NRC Columbus, Ohio ; Grand Prairie Reserves Center, Tx ;
Robert was one with nature. He spent many, extended camping trips at amazingly beautiful places in Arkansas and Tennessee. He loved having freedom that he helped to defend. Robert blew a lot of smoke and he burned a few bridges. Watching NASCAR and attending the races were a favorite. Robert loved 70's Classic Rock, Traditional Country, especially Merle. His favorite song of all time was "Old, Rugged Cross". Not too long before he passed, he stated, "I've been rich and famous before, and the Lord is still using me!"
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Flo Tubb, and sister, Peggy Tubb McCarley.
Survivors include his children, Rob Tubb, Joanna (Carson) Giles, Shawnda Williams. He was "Pops" to his Grandchildren, Halley Tubb, KayLee, Colt and Taylor Giles, Kiley, Cassidy, Katie, and Cara Damron, Great grandson Thaddeus Brown.
Siblings, James (Pat) Tubb; Daphane (James) Collins; Cheryl McDonald; Kenneth Tubb; brother in law, Sam McCarley; and Lifelong Best Friend, Mike Moore. Robert was blessed with many nephews and nieces and kinfolks.
Robert never knew his biological parents. Today, and forever, he is at his Forever Home with his Heavenly Father, and will spend an eternity fishing...with Jesus!!!
Robert's family is so very thankful for the care and kindness of Emily and the Team at Dierksen Hospice (Ar). Also, All our Love and Appreciation to his personal caretaker during recent months. We believe there are angels among us.
A memorial service with military honors will be on Saturday, November 16th, at Antioch Christian Church, 208 E 5th Street, Hooks Tx (across from high school gym) Visitation at 1pm with a Celebration of Life at 1:30pm The McBay family will be leading Hymns and Favorites. Lifetime friend, Mike Moore, will conduct the Eulogy.
