Lisa Ballew

May 15, 1966 — February 24, 2025

Lisa Ballew (Hixson), May 18, 1966 – February 24, 2025 Des Moines, IA – Lisa Ballew (Hixson) passed away peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the age of 58, surrounded by her loving daughters.

Born on May 18, 1966, to Don and Jean Hixson, Lisa grew up in Norwalk, IA, as the cherished youngest of four children. Her siblings, Deb Stuetelberg, Rosanne Brown, and Donald (Kim) Hixson, lovingly welcomed her into the family, and together they created countless treasured memories. Lisa graduated from Norwalk High School in 1984, setting the stage for a life of adventure, love, and laughter.

Lisa’s children were her greatest joy, and she never missed an opportunity to share her pride in them. She dedicated many years to caring for children in her home before becoming a beloved nanny to families across the U.S., a chapter in her life that began when she married her husband, Lance, in 2013. Together, they embraced the excitement of travel, which became a central theme of her life.

Lisa’s love knew no bounds, especially for her grandchildren, Van, Ethan, and Cameron Peterson. She celebrated their achievements with uncontainable pride and supported them in every step of their journeys. Lisa also had a deep connection with her canine companions, at one point welcoming seven schnauzers into her heart and home.

A true sun-worshipper, Lisa adored the warmth of sunny days and could often be found outside soaking up nature’s glow. Her vibrant spirit and love of life will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

Lisa is survived by her husband, Lance Ballew; her children: Katie (Jason) Peterson, Westley Correy, Brandon Guessford, and Molly Guessford; her mother, Jean Hixson; her siblings; and her beloved grandchildren. She is reunited in heaven with her father, Donald Hixson, her grandparents, and many pets who brought her endless joy throughout her life.
