In Loving Memory of Gary Lynn Green

Gary Lynn Green, a man of unwavering strength, generosity, and love, passed away on February 4, 2024, in Shreveport, Louisiana, surrounded by his family. Born on May 4, 1949, in Texarkana, Texas, Gary's journey through life was marked by resilience, service, and a deep devotion to his family and passions.

Gary's formative years were spent in Texarkana, where he graduated from Arkansas High School in 1968. A multifaceted individual and member of the Cherokee nation, he not only excelled on the football field but also proudly served in the ROTC, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to duty and honor.

Following his high school graduation, Gary embarked on a new adventure by enlisting in the United States Navy, stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. During the Vietnam era, he served with distinction on the USS JFK, demonstrating courage and commitment to his country.

Outside of his military service, Gary found joy in simple pleasures. An avid outdoorsman, he cherished moments spent hunting and fishing. He was a devout member of the Baptist Faith. His culinary skills were renowned, as family and friends eagerly anticipated the delicious meals he lovingly prepared. Above all, Gary treasured the time spent with his family, especially his many grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to his life.

A lifelong fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Gary's passion for the team was infectious. His love for the Razorbacks, affectionately calling them "Hogs," was a testament to his Texarkana roots and enduring spirit.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Margaret Green, brother Ronald Green, sister Carolyn Hensley, granddaughter Hollynn Shelton, and nephew Brandon Smith. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Susan Green of Blanchard, LA, and their children: Jeffery Green and fiancée Jamie Fuller of Canton, TX; Jennifer Shelton and husband Cory of Prosper, TX; Breia Cardenas and husband Valentin of Crawfordsville, AR; and Rob Lands and wife Casey of Bossier City, LA.

He is also survived by his siblings: Nancy Herron of Texarkana, AR; Pam Merrell and Lonnie of Ashdown, AR; Rhonda Surratt and husband Kenny of Texarkana, AR; Rusty Green and wife Tammy of Texarkana, AR; and sister-in-law Judy Coursey of Pointe Coupee, LA. Gary leaves behind a legacy that extends to 18 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of cherished family and friends.

A celebration of Gary's life will take place on 2/10/24 at Faith Baptist Church in Texarkana, AR with visitation and lunch to follow.

May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and memories that will endure through the ages.
