Eddie Carmickle

December 13, 1949 — August 28, 2024

Eddie Lee Carmickle, born December 13, 1949, in Lubbock, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Eddie was the beloved husband of Rebecca Lea Parks Carmickle, whom he met in Texarkana in 1968. The two were married on February 26, 1971, and shared over 53 years of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Eddie was a devoted father to two daughters, Amie Raney and her husband Lanny, and Cara Crooms and her husband Ryan, both of Dallas, Texas. He was the proud grandfather of Lucas and Landon Raney, who brought immense joy and pride into his life.

Eddie served his country with honor in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1977, a period that shaped his character and instilled in him a strong sense of duty and loyalty. Following his military service, Eddie began a long and dedicated career at Smith-Blair Manufacturing, where he worked for 49 years in various roles, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and lifelong friendships.

Eddie's passions were many, but he particularly loved the simple pleasures of life—hunting, fishing, and exploring the dirt roads with his faithful companion, his little dog Melvin. He was known for his quick wit and infectious humor, always ready with a joke and never meeting a stranger. Eddie had a deep love for nature, spending countless hours feeding the deer and hummingbirds and finding peace in the beauty of the outdoors.

Eddie leaves behind his brother, David Carmickle, and wife Judy, his sister Brenda Harmon, and brother-in-law Rickey Parks along with nephews and a host of cousins who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

Eddie Lee Carmickle will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose warmth, kindness, and humor touched all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Raindrop Hill, 6400 Gibson Lane, Texarkana, on Saturday August 31st @ 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a wildlife conservation charity of your choice, in keeping with Eddie’s love for nature.
