Donald Lee Finley passed away peacefully under the care of Hospice at The Retreat of Texarkana on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the age of 81. Donald was born at his home in Antioch, Texas, on June 26, 1943, to LeRoy Finley and Catherine Gardner Finley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, LoAnn Rodgers; one brother, Tommy Roy Finley; and one daughter, Sonja Finley McLean.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Tommie Jean Finley; daughters, LaDonna Tyson and husband Donny of Bloomburg, TX, and Catherine Bledsoe and husband Bobby of Hot Springs Village, AR; son, Walter Finley and wife Kathy of Queen City, TX. Surviving siblings are Nancy Jones of Atlanta, Texas, Loraine Griffin and husband Jamey Griffin of Atlanta, TX, and Betty Jo Turner of Mesquite, TX. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins and friends.
Donald spent many of his younger years working in the oil fields of West Texas. In 1970, he began working for Papco Construction Company during the construction of International Paper Company in Domino, TX. Upon completion of the mill, he joined International Paper Company’s Maintenance Department, where he worked until his retirement in 1997 after 25 years of hard labor and dedication.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15th, at Courtland Cemetery, located at 132 CR 3663, Queen City, TX.
The family would also like to recognize Concho Heart Hospice of Texarkana, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Concho Heart Hospice in honor of Donald Lee Finley.
