DeWayne Merrell

DeWayne Merrell, 74, of Ashdown, Arkansas, departed from this earth on June 11, 2024. He was born on December 17, 1949, in Ashdown, Arkansas, to Troy and Gladolia (Ward) Merrell.

DeWayne dedicated his working years to the City of Ashdown, where he served as the Sanitation Department Superintendent until his retirement. His commitment and hard work left an indelible mark on his community.

Beyond his professional life, DeWayne found joy in the great outdoors, particularly as a member of the Boggy Acres Hunting Club, where he relished in the pursuit of deer. But his greatest source of happiness came from his family.

He cherished his children and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding fulfillment in their presence and love. Dewayne's legacy of love and devotion will live on through the generations he leaves behind.

DeWayne is preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Gladolia Merrell, three brothers - Roger Dale Merrell, Troy David Merrell Jr., Danny "Dinky" Merrell, one sister - Gayla Ann Edwards, one stepdaughter - Tammy Kay Gibson, and one step-granddaughter - Lacy Verba.

He is survived by Ann Merrell, four children - Tammi Trumble, Angie Lewis (Troy), Bubba Merrell (Jodi), and Christina Jaramillo (Jay), nine grandchildren - Tara Lamm (Ryne), Tabitha Carver, Brittany Trumble, Zachery Trumble, Shayleigh Lanadauerde (Casey), Hunter Lewis, Alaina Lewis, Raylei Voss (Kory), and Allei Merrell- 10 great-grandchildren and two on the way. Two brothers- Terry Merrell (Nancy), Lonnie Merrell (Pam), one sister- Sherry Jester (Russell). Five stepchildren-Terry Ann Woodall (Mark), Ginny Delo, Wendy Needham (Dale), Clayton Bubba Gibson (Lori), and Gary Gibson- thirteen step-grandchildren, and 24 step-great-grandchildren. He was loved dearly by a host of nieces and nephews. 

Dewayne's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
